Bow Wow is ready for a name change.  In a video on Instagram, he announced that he's retiring his rap moniker.

The 27-year-old says going back to his birth name, Shad Moss, will reflect the "next chapter and challenge" of his life.  He says "Bow Wow does not fit" who he is at the moment, adding that it's "time for MR Moss to take over."

The name change will go into effect after the BET Awards on June 29th.  Hosted by Chris Rock, the awards ceremony will air live on BET at 8:00 p.m. Eastern.

This isn't the first time Bow Wow has changed up his name.  He released his first album, Beware of Dog, under the moniker Lil' Bow Wow in 2000 when he was just 13.  He dropped the "Lil'" from his name a few years later.
