T.I., SOULJA BOY: Artists Speak Out on Offensive Gucci Garment

Spike Lee was one of the first celebs to say he planned to boycott. And now Tip says the designer's apology isn’t enough. “As a seven-figure-a-year customer and longtime supporter of your brand, I must say… y’all GOT US [messed] up! Apology not accepted… Our culture RUNS THIS! We (people of color) spent $1.25 trillion a year, but are the least respected and least included. And if we stop buying ANYTHING they MUST correct any and all of our concerns. That’s THE ONLY WAY we can get some RESPECT PUT ON OUR NAME!”

T.I. says he doesn’t care if he has to start wearing clothes from Target to make a point. He later posted a call to action, asking followers to stop buying Gucci for three months, stop wearing Gucci and signal boost the message with your own network.

He's not the only artist to speak out.  Soulja Boy , who has been rocking a Gucci headband everywhere for weeks, wrote, "[Shaking my head] what is this man? No more @gucci headbands for me. Who’s responsible for this? Because it’s not funny! At all!"

TeeRoy's 2 Cents:

  • Gucci really tried it this time.
  • How can the same brand that is trying to get our money by collaborating with  Dapper Dan  be this tone deaf?
  • Honestly, Gucci should just take ownership instead of playing dumb. It'd be a lot easier to respect a company if they respected customers enough to be real with us.
  • Wonder what  Gucci Mane  thinks about all this.
  • A simple sorry isn't cutting it. Sorry, not sorry.
