GEORGE FLOYD: Chauvin Found Guilty on All Three Charges

Floyd died on May 25th, 2020 when the ex-Minneapolis officer knelt on his neck for about nine minutes.

On May 25th, 2020, Chauvin was videoed kneeling on Floyd's neck for about nine minutes during an arrest for an alleged counterfeit $20 bill. Floyd became unresponsive at one point and died during the incident. The video quickly went viral and touched off protests locally and nationwide.

Chauvin was one of four officers charged in Floyd's death. The other three -- J. Alexander Kueng, Thomas K. Lane and Tou Thao -- are facing lesser, but still serious, charges.

He was facing three possible charges: second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

The trial took nearly two months after jury selection began on March 9th. Opening arguments were heard on March 29th, and the prosecution began its case that day. It rested on April 13th after calling 38 witnesses. The defense began its case that day and rested on April 15th, having called just seven witnesses.

The city of Minneapolis settled a civil wrongful-death lawsuit in March for $27 million earlier this year.

Chauvin's bail has been revoked, and he's been remanded to prison. Sentencing will take place in about eight weeks.
