Yo Gotti has weighed in on his girlfriend Angela Simmon's controversy over the weapon-shaped purse she brought to the BET Awards 2024.

In an Instagram Story he posted on Tuesday, July 2, the CMG founder offered up a hilarious explanation to fans who still wonder why Simmons brought the gun-inspired purse to the awards show in Los Angeles. He used the crying laughing emoji with the green squirt gun emoji, and aimed it at green and red emojis. His response came shortly after Simmons extended a lengthy apology.

“She just practicing LOL,” Gotti wrote.

“I want to address the recent incident involving the green purse I carried at the BET Awards," Simmons wrote in her apology. "When I chose the purse, I believed it was cute and unique and I made a poor decision in using it as an accessory to amplify my beauty. I deeply regret that this item, which symbolizes a gun, was inappropriate and insensitive, especially given my personal and community experiences with gun violence.”

“Gun violence is a disease that has taken too many lives, particularly among young people and Black men," she continued. "By carrying this purse, I did not intend to promote gun violence in any way. It was a mistake that does not define who I am or my commitment to ending gun violence. To anyone who was hurt or offended by my actions, I offer my deepest apologies.”

Yo Gotti and Angela Simmons have been together for well over a year after they made it Instagram official in January 2023. The couple has been inseparable ever since. Simmons even appeared in Gotti's video for "No Fake Love" last year.
