Taraji P. Henson is making her Broadway debut.

According to PEOPLE, Henson is set to star in a revival of August Wilson's Joe Turner's Come and Gone, which is opening in New York City at a Shubert theatre in spring 2026.

Henson will portray Bertha Holly, the matriarch of a Pittsburgh boarding house, alongside Cedric "The Entertainer," who will star as her husband, Seth.

The production is being directed by Emmy and Golden Globe winner Debbie Allen, who is set to receive an honorary Oscar at this year's Governors Awards. Brian Anthony Moreland, a producer behind The Piano Lesson, will return to produce another one of Wilson's legendary plays.

"We are truly honored to return to August Wilson’s legacy," Moreland said in a statement. "With Debbie Allen’s visionary direction and this extraordinary cast, the entire company will present a performance that resonates deeply and lingers in the hearts and minds of all who experience it."

Wilson's Joe Turner's Come and Gone first hit Broadway in 1988, starring L. Scott Caldwell, Mel Winkler, and Angela Bassett. The play, set in the early 1900s, tells the story of Herald Loomis, a man haunted by the trauma of enslavement and searching for his wife after years of captivity.

Henson previously served as a producer on the Tony Award-nominated play Jaja's African Hair Braiding. Cedric is returning to the stage following his Broadway appearance in American Buffalo in 2008.
