LEBRON JAMES RECRUITS THOUSANDS OF POLL WORKERS AHEAD OF ELECTION
To prepare for safe in-person voting, more than 10,000 poll workers have been recruited by LeBron James' voting rights organization, More Than A Vote, and the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. Their campaign, We Got Next, is now taking their recruiting efforts to cities where voter-recruit shortages remain wide, such as Birmingham, Alabama; Charlotte, North Carolina; Cleveland, Detroit, Houston, Milwaukee, Philadelphia and San Antonio. They plan to mail letters expressing the need for help to the targeted states, and have already sent out to those participating, voter protection kits that contain a mask, disposable gloves, hand sanitizer and voter information cards. E-COMMERCE CO. STARTS $2 MILLION FUND TO SUPPORT BLACK RETAILERS
One of the largest and fastest-growing global e-commerce platforms, Wish, has started a $2 million fund to support independent, Black-owned retail businesses across the U.S. Businesses can apply for a grant -- from $500 up to $2,000 -- to help rebuild or jump into new areas of business. The grants can be used for a variety of business-related dealings, including workforce, operating costs, inventory, and marketing. You're eligible to apply if the business is 100 percent Black-owned or majority Black-owned, operated through a brick-and-mortar store, have 20 or fewer full-time employees and the annual revenue has been less than $1 million within the past 12 months. ADA TWIST, SCIENTIST SERIES COMING TO NETFLIX
A new Netflix series will bring Black Girl Magic and Black Girl Science together on the small screen. The new animated series is in the works based on the children’s book seriesAda Twist, Scientist, written by Andrea Beaty. The new show will be produced by Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground Productions. The streaming service says the series will also incorporate real scientists to inspire young viewers.
